More men in Glasgow: Check the gender imbalance data at COP 26
Glasgow COP with over 40,000 registered delegates is the biggest COP till date, but gender based data shows that in COP 26, there was a slide with more men in Glasgow
In the midst of a global pandemic, the Glasgow COP turns out to be the biggest COP till date with countries like Brazil, Turkey, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, and Russia sending more than 300 delegates. However, these countries and numerous others have sent a very male dominated delegation, making this COP slide in terms of ensuring more participation from women.
According to Carbon Brief, four countries, Yemen, Turkmenistan, North Korea and Holy See, basically the Vatican sent an all male delegation while Moldovia, Mexico and Samoa have more women than men in their team. Overall, 65% are men in COP 26 while in the previous recent COPs, the average was 62% male to 38% female.
